English and Literacy
The department covers a broad range of skills including literacy, the study of literature and media study. We are part of the core provision for all pupils from S1 to S5 and is a popular option for our sixth year pupils.
We offer opportunities to develop skills in reading, writing, talking and listening. We hope to foster enthusiasm for reading for enjoyment outside of school as well as providing our pupils with the support to develop the skills they need to succeed in the wider school and in whatever they choose to do once they have left Larkhall Academy.

Our experienced staff team work towards a broadly structured plan of work during the Broad General Education years, with the freedom to explore subjects and texts that classes find a particular interest in.
We offer the National 4, National 5 and Higher courses in English. We also offer National 4 Media.
If the number of applicants is appropriate, we also offer the Advanced Higher Course.
In exceptional circumstances, we accommodate National 3.
