NextGen Medical Careers Event: Opportunities & Pathways 10/09/26
The hugely popular NHS Lanarkshire NextGen Careers Information Event will take place, in person, at the Medical Education & Training Centre, Kirklands Hospital on Thursday 10th September 2026.
This year however we are making some changes. The focus will be on MEDICINE. Our Medical Careers Event; NextGen Medicine: Opportunities & Pathways will offer school pupils the opportunity to explore the wide range of specialties available within a career in medicine. Attendees can meet professionals from different fields, including surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, orthopaedics, and many more, to learn about their roles, training pathways, and day-to-day experiences. We hope the event will provide valuable insight into the diverse career options within medicine, helping young people make informed decisions about their future education and career aspirations.
We hope to have representatives from some of the Scottish Medical Schools in attendance to offer expert advice and information on education and training pathways, available programmes, entry requirements, funding opportunities, and career development options. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, gain insight into different routes to medicine.
We will also be hosting “Skill Stations” where attendees can try their hand at medical procedures. This is always a huge hit with the young people and as such we have extended this year to feature more stations.
As with previous years, the event is aimed at young people (S1 – S6) across North and South Lanarkshire and will be hosted between 4.00pm - 6.00pm, as a drop in event. Adults, Parents and teachers will also be welcome to come along.
This is a great opportunity for us showcase medical specialties to young people with an interest in medicine and hopefully engage with some of our workforce of the future.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any pupils looking to chat to professionals in advance of submitting their UCAS applications or indeed for any younger pupils who haven’t had the opportunity to attend careers events.
